Shared concept global cuisine in little Lausanne
Just a stone's throw from Ours Station lies Maza. Sharing is caring, so I'm a fan of taster plates. And with 'world fusion' as the listed cuisine type, I was looking forward to this one, which had been on my list for a few months.
There are seats outside on the pedestrianised road, so for those looking to do things al-fresco, it's a nice summer option. Though in our case, a spot of rain meant we switched inside mid-meal.
On arrival, the staff were friendly and enthusiastic, talking us through the menu and choices for food and drink. We opted for the 7-dish Chef's Menu. This came in at CHF 80 with the 3-glass wine pairing — at an additional CHF 38 — which the waiter was happy to customise to our preference for white, red, or dessert wine.
For our menu, the global food theme certainly had a strong Middle Eastern inspiration, with spices and aromas like tahini and a kashke in the mix against more South American favourites of ceviche, raw fish, and delicately cooked meat. The meal was filling yet still felt light, and the dessert options were a sweet and textured finish before a ginger and lime drink helped freshen the palate as we left.
I'm told the menu regularly changes when the chef gets fresh inspiration, which is a nice touch to ensure a new tasting experience on my next visit.
